Michael Dougherty
Chair
Michael Dougherty is long-time advocate for land conservation through a heritage lens. As a heritage consultant from 2001-2011, Michael worked on a large variety of projects for non-profits, local governments and the province, helping communities identify resources and develop tools to preserve their local heritage.
In 2011, he left consulting to work in local government and non-profit agencies in Mountain View County. Michael continued working in heritage: historic resource management and public history, actively working to interpret the rich local histories. Additionally, he had a keen interest in identifying ‘new’ resources worthy of conservation—homesteads; barns; school sites; early settlement & trail systems; and, importantly, the deep Indigenous heritage.
In 2021, Michael returned to heritage consulting. While his current work pulls him to the farthest reaches north and south in Alberta, he looks to stay connected, volunteer and serve his home community—the lands of the Legacy Land Trust Society.
